Chinatown hunt

If only I knew Christine was hunting down in Chinatown, I would have planned to meet her there too~
Anyways, my mum and I swung by down to Chinatown on Wednesday cos we happened to be free. It turned out to be quite an eventful one, at least for me. Cos i have no idea what all these customary stuff are supposed to symbolise and why are they so important.

My mum wanted to show me the Chinese Customary Wedding Stuff shops that she went to previously. Most of the shopowners were really friendly and willing to explain why certain things are required, except one. *angry I'm so sure, i will not patronise that shop, no matter how low the prices are (actually around the same as other shops). Anyway, the friendliness of the other shop-owners cheered me up alot and were very helpful even though we didnt purchase anything from them.

First shop

The super friendly and cheerful shop-owner, Frankie. (his real name, not one i madeup ok)
His shop is packed fulled of wedding stuff. This is also where I got the most details of why we need certain things.

Stickers/Cut Papers to stick stick stick everywhere for that Wedding Ambience.
Stick them on the doors, windows, mirrors, orange, tables, chairs, lights, walls, ceilings etc. wherever you want. Usually between $1-3, depending on the size. Here's my mummy, happily choosing the stickers.

Wedding Lamps, for "An Chuang"- set the bed.
Done by the brides' side.
Lamps - sounds like having children in hokkien. (Tian Ding or smth like that, my hokkien not very zai ok)

Seeds/fruits to scatter on the bed during the AnChuang. Don't need to think why you need it lah, cos no one is supposed to slp on the bed after being set by the bride/good-life woman (hao ming ren). Needless to say, who will want to slp while rolling around on a bed scattered with nuts.

Frankie's prepackaged "An Chuang" Set for lazy and "don't have a clue what to buy" brides like yours truely. Quite affordable at $66.80.
Apparently, we're also supposed to get real-sized clogs as it is expected of the daughter-in-law to go to the market to run errands/buy groceries, so they are functional to that extent. However, modern people have converted them to those cute little mini-ones, usually with cartoon pictures on them.

This tea-set is so old school! I love it, and the peony flowers are really nice too~
Price is on the set for your reference too~ haha

GuoDaLi Baskets
Available for rental/buying from the grooms, to bring over all your wines, dragon-pheonix candles, oranges, and dunno what else.
So big, can fit anything inside. You can rent it for a week for $18. Deposit $88, and get $68 on return.

The really traditional dragon-pheonix candles.

Red mesh bag to wrap up the 2 big bottles of Fanta Orange (old school again~ =] ) I asked Frankie why particularly orange. He says its just an auspicious colour and it used to be a luxury drink in the past. M thinks that the bride side zhuan dao, because the groom side is supposed to give alcohol, while we return Fanta Orange.
wei, luxury drink ok. Drink liao very happy one. (sounds like alcohol)

He even sells old-school makeup! the packaging is so cool!
My mum says its like the 2 way cake at that time~

Matching dessert bowls and spoons for bride and groom on the day.

Paid for the stickers (abit paiseh cos only bought so little but ask so many questions =P) and left for the second shop.

Second shop (the upsetting one)

Quite a good display of all the products, but both owners ignoring my mum.

At this point in time, the uncle turned around and asked.
"Yao zhao shen mo?!"
"What are you looking for?"

My mum turned and asked him what are the prices of the teasets on display.
He stated their individual prices and mum went on comparing which designs are nicer.

"Ni yao mai nai yi ge?"
"Which set do you want to buy?"

I replied, "Wo men kan kan er yi, den yi xia hai yao chu qu, hen nai na."
"We're just browsing. We're still going elsewhere, very heavy to carry around if we were to buy now."

To which he turned away immediately. We continued looking around the shop till the lady boss turned and asked if she could help us. We asked her some questions on what some of the stuff used for and the uncle boss shouted to her.

"Kan Kan Er Yi!"

Clearly that is no way you should be doing business, a red business nonetheless. Even if we were just browsing, maintaining a good service ensures return business. Which in this case, ensures the opposite.

My mum raised her eyebrows and we ignored them.

Picture of uncle turning around just before he scolded.
"Xiaojie, pai dao hen shuang hor. Bu ke yi luan luan pai!" and kept staring at me for the next 10 min like a hawk.

Yes, maybe I should have asked for permission to take the photos first, but I felt that it was too much. So we left~

Shop number tigga

This shop was one that is the nicest and most modern. It has a online website, catalog, in English, translated for dumdums like M. They even packaged everything up nicely and offers free delivery to your desired location. Perfect for the modern-age, net-savvy couples who are too lazy to walk through Chinatown. They've got some rather chic teasets which my mum feel in love with. I totally dig their vintage umbrellas. Really nice, but no pictures. Think you can find them online. The guy in the shop was most helpful, service is the best of all the shops. But of course, slightly pricier than the rest.

Mummy likes this.

Then she spotted a wooden little box stacked up in the corner of the shop and fished it out.

Looks like a MaMa pig with a trail of piglets. But looks more like something else to me. Haha..
Last set in the store already, and both of us think it looks cute. So if anyone's interested will have to grab it fast.

Along the way to the 4th shop, mummy and I passed by a qipao tailoring shop which had the type of qibao that I think Christine have in mind.

My mum kept saying that those cotton ones look like smth that the Laoshi will wear in the past.
But its the nice cottony feel to them which makes them unique.

Lovely peacock blue qibao!! My mummy looking very happy cos she spotted one very nice design, which she wore to try out.

Mummy looking pretty in the qibao. Too big for her, she lost quite abit of weight recently so when she tried on the second smaller piece it looked even nicer on her.

Fourth Shop

Inside this shop was an old man who smiled at us the moment we stepped in. He was very experienced and told us that in the past, people used those black and red baskets instead of full red ones. Nowadays, just buy the small ones will do. He also agreed that it is troublesome to rent, since you have to travel all the way back just to return the huge basket. So remember, black and red is the traditional one. The ones that are hanging on the ceiling in his shop.

(uncle forgot to take out his green sticker, hahah he's not having a fever!! so cute.)

As you can see, i'm getting rather lazy to write more as this goes on. Hahah till the next post~

Accessories Overview - Preparation for the Shoot

As mentioned, I be bringing some of my own accessories for the shoot despite whether if it is gonna be used for sure a not. So here's some preview of what I am bringing:

Whimsical Earrings (own) For elegance, some pearl earrings
White pearl earrings($10) from DIVA
Pink Pearl Earrings from Chomel (prev from ROM)

Gemy earrings from Chinatown (3 for 10 bucks)

I deliberately chose the gem earrings in this order so that one is elegant, modern, cute for more variety choices during the shoot

Of cos my belove chunky bracelets, meant to compliment the floral ring I bought previously.

Bracelets from SIX ($14.90,$16.90 respectively)

My rings =)

The gem floral ring is also 3 for 10 bucks! which i bought it with other items.

Pearl Necklace($16) from DIVA
Grand Finale Pic
What I love is that in between the pearls, there are some gems for a modern touch

Love the vintage oriental hand mirror (3 for 10 bucks)

OPS I din wipe the mirror bu somehow it looks more vintage with the 'dusky' print on it lol

Victorian hangheld mirror (3 for 10 bucks too)

now we know that Chinatown does have some gem buys isnt it lol

Even though, I am not sure what props I be using it is better to bring more then less isn't it?

I will be going down to china town to finish up on the last prop - the fan soon=)

I realise that during the period before the shoot, it can be very nerve racking as we have absolutely no idea what to bring.

Thanks to a fren Haidi who has been sharing tips with me, it makes it more reassure about some nitty gritty details that I have forgotten:

1) Large button shirt for changing for outdoor location if you have more then one outdoor venue

2) Facial Tissue, Wet Tissue

3) Some snacks for you to snack on (in her case it is jolly bean which i think is quite a good suggestion because it is not oily and kinda easier to bring around)

Hong will be companying me for the photoshoot and of cos bringing her paparazzi camera along so do look out for her blog entry after my shoot as it will give u a clear overview of how the day goes (i get her to be as detailed as possible if she has the time lol)

Anyway if you are lucky enough to hear from this busy woman, she actually is a even more detailed planner then in terms of the photoshoot. My style is go there take cool, glamourous and chio photos can le lol but for her photoshoot style, it is more fun loving and meaningful one as there will be planned story board etc etc which is going to complete her old school theme. I was already excited when I hear her plans but her shoot is arround July and August so we can have something exciting to look forward to then.

Completion of the Sexy Cinderella Bridal Heel

Now it might strange that why I use the term Cinderella when the evening gown heels is neither transparent or disney princessy lol. However, how about a sexy gem claddd heels made by your beloved prince?

Yep as usual woodblock is very thoughtful. Once I came up with the plan and overview on how to decor the heel . woodblock has been helping me to tie the necklace to the heels while i pasted the gems on. With long nails, tying is like a crazy process and I hardly get it tied up neatly and tightly=(

So here's a DIY Bridal Heel made by my very own woodblock

The detailings are much neater and cleaner as compared to the draft pic i gave yesterday
I am so excited for work on the sticks for the masquerade masks tmr!

My body beauty regime @ Home EXPOSE

Now sometimes going for facials is simply not enough for btbs esp when the beauty salon doesn't take care of your hair and body for you in the package signed. But this doesnt mean that we are going to fork out thousands of dollars to top up and get them to include these as well.
Here today I am sharing some products which I really feel is not bad after a period of use. As quoted by Jackie Chan, "I dislike introducing products which I have never use before" lol yep but I dunno how true is his claim but mine is definitely real cos I aren't no celebrity and I dun have any product endorsement so there is not need for me to promote products unneccessarily. Plus i am not introducing any expensive items at all which is the main point here =P

Now in the past esp last yr, I have problems with back acne which all btbs know is a hideuos problem esp when we dream about wearing sexy backless gown dresses! So I became slightly hardworking (which is like only during times when I remember and always last minute intensive care before any big days) and started using these => which seems not bad after some period of use(but if you ask me which is the very one that is useful I aren't sure cos I use them concurrently)
CAUTION these are only for references, I never say die die must use =P

First up, my body brush from The Body Shop (not bad if u have short arms like me and little patience at times to slowly massage and use body scrub on your body)

When I do have time, I will use the ultra cheap but effective lulur mandi which I bought many many many bottles back from Batam during my last weekend get away with woodblock. The cost is like 1 plus buck per bottle which u can use for months. This is not the kind of scrub with little beads inside for scrubbing which you massage the whole day but you prolly remove like a few cells only.

But when I feel like pampering myself like a tai tai, I will use the body salt scrub from AHAVA brought back by woodblock's friends which cost like 30 plus bucks.

Of cos for the body wash, I use one fo acne one for my back specially.
Now, Actually for brides, i aren't sure whether the hair is silky smooth is important because the hard true is that, once the make up artist start spraying hair sprays on your hair, nobody really knows much about ur hair texture. It is more of the hair length which the make up artist will have interest in as it determines the type of hair style they will do for you.

Anyway nevertheless, I wanted to share this one because I am those pple who DON't use conditioner because yeshhh i am just forever too lazy. So one day I realise my hair is like super damn lousy => frenzy and dry => untidy =(

So went to the nearest shop and got this bottle of conditioner. Just after once, the hair was really significantly different. I think so far I use like perhaps only 4-5 times => marvelous result despite I am still too lazy to use it daily.

I do use conditioners once in a blue moon but I never really was awe by the results because once the hair dries , it is like only slightly better but not like this. SO I guess not just the gimmick on this hair treatment conditioner works but the product does work like what it says there.

DIYing my own Masquerade Masks

I understand that many are disapointed that I have not blog in ages which I forgot to explain in my previous blog entry=> I needed time badly to get myelf in better shape and and rest since I dont have much holiday and have been going back to work for the past 2 weeks actually. Therefore I be blogging more intensively while we countdown to my photoshoot so that brides can share my experience in prepping towards the shoot.

Yes as part of the props, we were being asked by the photographer to bring our own masks if we can find any nice one. Of cos we can it from rental but I thought why not make it myself since I can get those basic masks and then do extra add-ons myself.

Spotlight is having a nice sale selling masks at 10 bucks each instead of the usual 19.90 which is true becos weeks ago when i was there, i swear it wasnt on sale at all. So i bought one since i feel 10 bucks is still not so cheap for DIY. but it includes the designs and accessories such as the sequins and feathers so actually it is still consider not bad esp when i am coming to last minute work and I cant afford to do too many DIYs in great detail.

I also bought some embellishments and gems from Chinatown and Diaso for add ons =) for woodblock's mask I bought one at only $3.50!!!! Well it is not becos it is cheap only but most importantly to be fair to woodblock I want to get a mask which is more masculine and not those girly girly chio kind which won't fit him.
Princess Christine's Mask

I only change 2 things - one is the metallic plastic jewel which i thought was realy ugly so I change it to some sequin floral decor found in Chinatown at $3.50

Of cos I love bling stuff - so bling part for the eye details.
I use mainly - double sided tape and fabric glue to get all the feathers and accessories pasted down =) It is not easy for pasting accesories onto a mask due to the curve surface so it was a great help to use those giant clothes peg to keep them in place for hours while waiting for the fabric glue to dry.

Woodblock's mask! Very masquline isn't it. I added feathers and gems on the mask to make it look like a set with the female mask esp with the colours!

TADA - a matching masks pair!

Oooooo. Are we ready to party? Not YET lol. This is still incomplete as we have yet add on the sticks for the masks =P

DIYing my Evening Gown Heels

Pre-wedding shoot is coming soon on next Wednesday for me and as DIY bride it is sure even busier for me running around recceing acessories to wear to what props to bring for the shoot and of cos keeping to a tight beauty regime. On top of that I have to settle my AD photographer of cos the systemind platoform bed in terms of costing and payment. Yes I am consider almost a super lao po for woodblock but he has been helping me out heavily on this particular heels revamp project.
Now when I brought the black heels to the bridal shpo, this time kingsly said that it will be better if I paste gems on it. So as usual with great trust in his taste I went to revamp up the heels. The only prob with me is that when i don't have much inspiration, I can't do much until yesterday while shopping for great bargain items, I came upon faux diamond necklace plu earrings set which cost like 2 sets for 10 bucks only!!!! yes I knew immediately from the price and the super bling faux diamonds => that they are gonna be embellishments for my evening gown heels. In additional, I bought some stick on gems for those cell phones (again from Diaso) to be stick on the heels too. The project has yet been completed since I started 2 DIY project at the same time yesterday but it shall be near completion soon tonight =) before then I shall get on and move on to getting other props ready.
Anyway below are the pics of the incomplete but good enough to see what I am doing for your reference esp if u are plannign for any diy heels revamp project for your evening shoes. Total additional cost for both shoes should be around 16 bucks =)

Shoes collar.

Love the dangling gems effect all around the shoe collar!

The front gemy details

TADA the overview=)

OH YES how can I forget the heel details for my own vainity sake lol

It is not easy for me to work on project work these days due to my super long fingernails which is like a hindrance sigh but no choice since i need to do mani and pedi next Tues (one day b4 the photoshoot).

VITORIA'S SECRETS

Eh why did i hear sounds of disappointment for grooms to be and sniggering laughter from brides to be. Oh no OH no, you got me wrong, what I meant is the secret wardrobe for the groom, woodblock. I hope we hadn't forgotten his real name -VITOR (sexy name right lol)

As promise that I be showcasing woodblock's wardrobe while we get him ready for the photoshoot. Other then the mandarin suit, beige suit etc that will be lend out to woodblock fomr the bridal shop, we heeded kingsly advice to prep woodblock up as he is very honest that bliss bridal doesn't provide much for the guys.
So we bought:
1) 1 black shirt
2) 1 white shirt
3) 1 stylish burberry print inspired tie (in words it's not burberry lah lol)
4) 1 stylish fashionable thin tie (for ribbon ties)
5) 1 blazer
in addition to top things up leftover from the rom we have
6) 1 Double layer design vest
7) 1 Silver pants

So here are the pics of all the items individually:
1) Black Shirt
Love the fabric texture on the chest of the black shirt
2) White Shirt
For both shirts, we were advice to get some design prints as these will be the expose part of the shirt while the blazer, vest etc is being put on. so groom to be, pls take note that when you buy shirts don't spend too much on shirts whereby the design are on the shoulders etc if possible to optimise your dollars.

3) Burberry print inspired tie

This tie caught both me and woodblock's eye immediately when w saw it not because of the burberry print nor just the cool black and white colour combination. Actually it is not well captured by the camera but there are silver threading details in this particular tie which makes it glimmer and very outstanding on its own!!!
4) Fashionable thin tie
These days, if you notice that other then the usual cravats or coloured ties, I notice guys are also tying ribbon knots which makes it look kinda victorian (appeals greatly to me since i love vintage inspire apparels)
5) Blazer
This blazer is the one that I mentioned that Guoliang wore during Michelle Chia's wedding. The interesting thing is that the pocket can either be covered up or tuck in as shown in the pic above. The shimmery texture makes it looks grand too i must say.
and the clothes used previously in ROM which I am not going to let it go to waste
6) Double layer design vest
7) Silver pants
The combination or permutation from all these apparels are numerous and it is definitely not going to be easy to humour our supermodel Vitoria here to change so many times =(
BUT
Since I say this is gonna be some kind of VITORIA's SECRT fashion parade(VSFP) i shall do it manually without woodblock ops i mean Vitoria's help.
Collection 1 - Vexy
VSFP 1
VSFP 2
The black shirt base is really suitable for dark venues like Asian Lunar Bar and notice how the black checkered tie gives a fushion of vintage and yet fashion forward statement. (ok i just adore the tie too much)
VSFP 3
This outfit is going to make Vitoria look kinda cute with the ribbon tie and I thought he suits it quite well. (how come i have this feeling that i am describing him like some kind of pet puppy?)

VSFP 3
Now the white base is bright and refreshing esp when we want to take the pics at Grand Shanghai.
VSFP 4
Kinda oldie looking after adding the fabulous tie
Can be tuck in or out to me=)
VSFP 5
Same thing with the ribbon tie and now white base => absolute prince charming
Collection 2 - Hottie Blaze
(Warning the blazers pocket are assymetric so that you can look at both different looks at the same time not becos of technical error by Princess Christine)
VSFP 6
This can be wore during day time esp when the groom goes fetching the bride
VSFP 7
VSFP 8
I think this can be use for first walk in look
VSFP 9
Somehow the tie doesn't goes that well with the suit i think so this look it out =(
But for second walk in i think woodblock can stick to the mandarin blazer or something depends on what he likes of cos (which is actually heavily dependent on what i like muahahaha)=)
Oh dear now that he have so many permutation look, i think we will be spoilt for choices when the beige suit, black mandarin suit and the black tailored pants comes in =(
Finally something to drool about - all the above has been proudly sponsored my Princess Christine to woodblock as I was thinking that since he paid for my gowns etc, this is the very least I can do for him=)
Now you know why he loves me to the core - he loves free sponsorship lol
Ok for now we will be looking for a stylo milo ring + shoes for woodblock
(ahem no sponsorship this time round ar, your sugar mummy is broke le =P)
